diy: valentine's day decor

Valentines Day Decor - DIY
Today I decided to share with you all a fun Valentine's Day decor DIY! I was inspired by this pin and this pin on Pinterest and decided to combine the painted bottle methods to tailor it for Valentine's Day decor. This DIY will take you through the steps needed to create your own festive decor!

I got all of my supplies at Michael's. I got rubber bands in a multitude of sizes to create a mixture of varying sizes for my designs on the bottles. I used this spray paint in silver, gold and pink. The letter stickers were chosen because of the size of the letters and style, the pattern doesn't matter since I spray painted over them.

The first step is to identify where you want your decor to go, and how you want the bottles arranged. This arrangement went into my decision making as to how I was going to paint each bottle. I decided to use them for festive coffee table decor. Two of the bottles are wine bottles, and one is a beer bottle.

Note: Make sure to remove all labels and paper/foil from the bottles. I had the best luck soaking the bottles in warm, soapy water and letting the labels fall off. If they needed a little help, Goo Gone was my hero. I also ran the bottles through the dishwasher to make sure they were super clean before painting.

The next few steps were not documented in action because apparently I am not a very graceful spray painter. Anyways - I decided to spray my large bottles with the metallic silver paint and the smaller beer bottle with the pink paint. Each bottle that you see pictured has two coats of paint. The pink paint had a bit of a different consistency and didn't coat the beer bottle as well as I had hoped - but the metallic worked wonders. Let the bottles dry for 30 minutes to an hour.

After I let the bigger silver bottles dry, I placed my rubber bands around the bottles in varying designs. I tried to use a combination of sizes to create two different looks.

For the pink bottle, I decided the way the pink looked (kind of drippy and not super thick) didn't matter since I would be painting over the majority of it. I chose to do "XOXO" in stickers vertically down the bottle.

Lastly, I did my second coats of paint. Gold over the silver bottles with rubber bands, and silver over the pink "XOXO" message. I did three coats of silver & gold on the bottles and let them dry over night before removing the stickers and rubber bands.

I really love the way these turned out, and honestly, I think I could use them any time of the year. What do you think? If you try this at home, let me know how it goes!
