trend to try: drop waist

Happy Thursday! I hope you have had a fantastic week so far. I thought today I would do my first post in a new little series I am thinking about doing every week (on Thursdays, maybe?) called "Trend to Try." There are so many amazing bloggers who are so fashion forward and on-trend. I would like to think of myself that way, but sometimes I hang back on edgier trends to see how others style them. I know that if I feel a little intimidated by a trend, then maybe you do too! The goal of Trend to Try posts will be to find some great examples of how a new-ish trend has been styled, so we can all feel a little more empowered about going out and trying it ourselves!

The first trend I am talking about is a drop waist dress. This little number has been on my mind and I love the way it looks on Crystalin, Courtney and Jenn. I did notice that they all opted for solid-color versions (noted.) All three also have a sleeve versus a no-sleeve. I love how the dress brings feminine flair to each look.

I think my biggest fear in trying this trend has been my body type. I have a shorter waist and a bigger, ahem... lower half, so I was nervous about where the waist would hit. I am really drawn to Courtney's look because the skirt portion of the dress leaves a little extra room. It is also worth noting that each look fits comfortably.... no need to purchase this dress too tight, leave a little room for movement.

What do you think about the drop waist dress? Is this something you would try? Any other trends that have you a little intimidated? I want to hear your thoughts about the look and about the series!

decor love: custom silhouettes

If you have been reading my blog for a while, or follow me on Instagram,  or know me personally...then you know I love my pups a LOT. They are so much fun & full of so much personality! John and I treat them like our children (they basically are) and I wanted a way to incorporate them into our decor with something different than just a photo. After mentioning to John that we could get a painting done of them, he thought I was going wayyy overboard and called me a crazy dog mom (custom dog paintings are like, $500...). Needless to say...that idea was shot down pretty quick.

So you can imagine how excited I was to come across this awesome decor idea from the ladies at The CHICago Life Blog. A few weeks ago in one of my Friday Faves posts, I mentioned the link and how cool I thought silhouette decor was. Amelia reached out to me, and to my surprise, offered to do silhouettes of Maggie and Novie! When I received the custom 5x7 prints in the mail, I was beyond ecstatic. They turned out better than I could have imagined, especially since the photos I provided her were not that great (it is so hard to get a great profile shot of your dog)! I love the modern simplicity of the silhouette against the white frames. I think they pop out on the mantle and are so special & unique!

Amelia has her very own Esty Shop and does custom silhouettes of pets, couples & children. She offers a fun touch with an option to do silhouettes in a range of colors and many fonts if you choose to include a name. She did a fantastic job and the turnaround time blew me away. She even gave me a frame recommendation, although I ended up snagging these frames from Ikea. Overall, I am so pleased with how my little mantle turned out!

Make sure to head over to The Custom Silhouette Shop stat & incorporate some silhouettes into your decor; and don't forget to check out The CHICago Life Blog!

Happy Monday! How was your weekend? I still feel like I am totally behind from our SF trip and playing catch up with sleep. This weekend was focused on our place and getting it organized, and yes, we are still buying/swapping out furniture. It is hard. work. The good news is it is really coming together!

It is easy to go over budget when you are shopping online, or trying to put together an outfit for an occasion (even if it's just a fun new dress for the weekend!) I find that if I set out a budget, then begin to pair the outfit together before making purchases, I am much more successful than if I buy as I go. Here are three easy outfits for any occasion. I decided to focus on dresses because they are comfy and easy to transition into spring.

What are your tactics for online shopping? Do you limit outfits to a specific budget?
